What is the best self defense product for you?
We believe a well infromed customer is a happy customer. We would like to give you a bit of information on self defense and some of the products we offer. Our goal is for you to get away in the unfortunate instance of an assault. We say flight over fight.
So what is the best self defense product for you? That is for you to decide, however we will try to make that a more educated decision.
Personal Alarms
Personal alarms are a good device to deter an assailant and alert others of an attack by emitting a loud alarming sound.
Downsides: Require batteries, make sure they are charged. May not be effective in secluded locations.
Steel Batons
Steel batons are good for going from defense to offense. Bring an attacker to their knees, available in multiple lengths. Retract for easy concealment in a purse or on a belt with the included holsters.
Downsides: Requires force and accuracy, remember practice makes perfect.
Stun Guns
Stun guns are handheld devices that emit an electric charge to subdue an assailant not to be confused with tasers which fire projectiles. There are many styles, and voltages. The voltage isn't a very good indicator as to the effectiveness of a stun gun. 25,000 volts is just as good as 2.5 million volts it's the amperage that matters and they are all about the same. That is a lesson in electronics that is unimportant at the moment. Look at the style, is it user friendly, how close do you have to get to use it? These are the type of questions you should be asking. Remember flight over fight.
Downsides: May require you to get close to the attacker and may take a few seconds to take effect. Think stun baton.
Pepper Spray
Pepper spray can be one of the best defense products on the market today. With it's ability to make breathing difficult and seeing almost impossible, pepper spray can be very effective when used correctly. There are many brands which are mostly the same chemicals and concentrations, however there are many different spray types, which is important.
Pepper Spray:
Produces a mist good for close range and against one attacker usually comes in smaller containers.
Pepper Spray Stream:
Produces a steady stream similar to a squirt bottle. Long range, should be moved from side to side for good facial coverage.
Pepper Spray Fogger:
Produces a heavy fog directed towards attackers. Great for home use against multiple assailants and good range with less need for accuracy.
Pepper Spray Gel:
Pepper spray gel is similar to the stream in its ability to spray longer distances. The biggest difference is how the gel sticks to an assailant like glue.
Pepper Spray Foam:
Like the gel the pepper spray foam sticks to the attacker, but it expands on impact.
Inert Practice Spray:
Practice spray, I know it sounds silly. You only need to use pepper spray in an emergency situation, you can't really practice with it without harming yourself or someone else. Do you know what the range is? We carry inert spray in stream and fogger models.
Downsides of pepper spray: Limited uses, requires accuracy.
